Local, Regional, and State Advocacy

Arts Advocacy on the Local Level

The Alameda County Arts Commission is the founder and coordinator of the Alameda County and City-Level Arts Partnership Network. The Arts Partnership Network members are leaders of arts organizations that serve their whole community such as City-Level Arts Commissions, Councils and Associations. The goal of the network is to create a platform for the Alameda County Arts Commission staff and representatives from the City-Level arts organizations to meet each other, participate in conversations and discussions, and provide information about current events, programs, and priorities in their part of the County. This creates an opportunity for a deeper understanding of our County arts and arts education ecosystem. In working together, we expand our collective knowledge and develop opportunities to participate in and partner on County and Statewide initiatives to support the arts and our whole regional community. For more information about the individual organizations in the Arts Partnership Network, please view the Overview of City-Level Arts Organizations in Alameda County Document. Arts Advocacy on the Regional Level

The Arts Commission works in partnership with the East Bay Arts and Cultural Alliance which is a coalition of organizations located throughout the region working together to strengthen the arts and cultural community. Regional gatherings of arts community members also take place as part of Californians for the Arts’s annual Regional Conversations.

Arts Advocacy on the State Level

The Arts Commission works directly with the State-level organizations including Californians for the Arts, California Arts Advocates, and CREATE CA on a number of year-round advocacy projects. One of the Arts Commission’s important projects involves a yearly partnership with Californians for the Arts on Arts, Culture and Creativity Month of April. This annual month-long event raises awareness about the value of the arts and empowers arts advocates to take action. Cities in Alameda County are encouraged to arrange a city proclamation in honor of Arts, Culture and Creativity Month (template provided). The Arts Commission also works in partnership with Create CA to support high-quality arts education for all students. For a list of State and National Arts Organizations, click here.
