Frederick Chacon

Representing Alameda County Supervisorial District Three —

Frederick Chacon is the Artistic Director of the Altarena Playhouse in Alameda and a longtime arts educator with the Alameda Unified School District. Mr. Chacon joined the Playhouse in 2005. During the last five years, Mr. Chacon has created exciting new productions and has attracted new audiences. He commissioned two world premieres, produced the theater’s first Shakespeare and Tennessee Williams productions and presented many sold-out special performances. He instituted an internship program, utilizing theater students from local high schools and colleges as technical staff members, and founded a youth summer day camp. Mr. Chacon has led the Alameda High School Drama Department and coordinated the school’s Visual and Performing Arts Program since 1984, building the program from 9 to 22 classes. In 1996 he founded the Alameda Civic Light Opera, and served as the company’s managing director until 2004. Mr. Chacon has supported and inspired the lives of hundreds of youth and adults in City of Alameda and throughout the County.
